You Really Don't Know Me

You say you know me
And think of me as your friend.
But if we disagree,
Then I’m your enemy ‘til the end.
How you look at me
Seems to change from day to day.

I stood by you through thick and thin.
I’ve always been there for you.
Right or wrong, I’d let you win.
I’d never dream of judging you.
Yet you won’t bother to look within
The person I am today.

I’m not complicated,
But there’s so much more to me
Than who you tell yourself I am,
Or who you want me to be.

Oh, I’m a saint and I’m a sinner.
Some call me a loser, others say that I’m a winner.
I dine on fast food or a seven course dinner.
Don’t try to label me,
‘Cause you really  don’t  know me.

The more you look through narrow eyes,
The more of me you’ll never know.
Hearing laughter when I cry,
Celebrating when I’m low.
I wish some day you’ll realize
That you really don’t know me.

Any time you let yourself see things for what they are,
The best in me will stand out like a shining star.

Oh, I’m a saint and I’m a sinner.
Some call me a loser, others say that I’m a winner.
I dine on fast food or a seven course dinner.
Don’t try to label me,
‘Cause you really  don’t  know me.

I’m a saint and I’m a sinner.
Some call me a loser, others say that I’m a winner.
I dine on fast food or a seven course dinner.
Don’t try to label me,
‘Cause you really  don’t  know me.

Songwriter's Notes: OK; so I finally made a contemporary sounding "power ballad." The subject of this song suggests that there’s more to him than meets the eye, and expresses frustration regarding his lover being unwilling or unable to see his true inner being that lies beneath the surface.
