Sixteen - oh-oh, sixteen
Looking back at my younger self brings a smile
Noticing girls and awkwardly finding my style
Getting better at sports
And getting better in social situations
How I miss those days
Life was a nonstop celebration
Sixteen - when I started to dress really cool
Hanging out with my friends
On the streets after school
Sixteen - when I learned all about going steady
Made no difference that I wasn't even ready
Sixteen - oh-oh, sixteen
Down the road a few years, everything would change
A brand new world that wasn’t filled with fun and games
Now it’s my place to work eight to five
Living the dream is just a daily grind
Oh, time goes by so fast
How I miss the young life I left behind
Sixteen - when I started to dress really cool
Hanging out with my friends
On the streets after school
Sixteen - when I learned all about going steady
Made no difference that I wasn't even ready
Sixteen - oh-oh, sixteen
Finally got the keys to the family car
Packed a towel and a cooler and my new guitar
On the way to the beach, picked up my girl
Living life like no tomorrow
Sixteen - when I started to dress really cool
Hanging out with my friends
On the streets after school
Sixteen - when I learned all about going steady
Made no difference that I wasn't even ready
Sixteen - oh-oh, sixteen
Sixteen - oh-oh, sixteen (repeat & fade)
Songwriter's Notes: Everyone eventually moves on from their teen years, but those wonderful memories from this special time in our lives remain in our hearts forever. This upbeat song is reminiscent of nostalgic pop tunes from the 60’s and 70s. I wrote this song to be a “time machine” for listeners to travel back to fun times from their high school days.
