Common Ground

Common Ground

Gazing all around, as far as I can see,
So many types of people, so different from me.
There's a common ground between us,
Once the facade is shed between us.
We all share the very needs,
Planted deep in us like seeds.

Individual attributes, each person so unique,
Compassion at all levels, some strong and some weak.
Despite our outer cover...
Living with one another,
On the same playing field,
Some are hurting, some are healed.

Look around... common ground.
Common ground... joining us together is what I found.
Because we appear and act unlike our fellow man,
Is no reason not to stand on common ground.

Take a good look at my face. What do you see?
The surface of a person changed by God's love for me.
Though we're all equal in humanity,
Only some allow His love to truly set them free.
The greatest common ground we share
Is access to our God who cares.

Songwriter's Notes: This song takes a fresh look at society, focusing on the similarity and common attributes of seemingly-different people. The message is simple: there’s no place in one’s heart and mind for divisiveness once you realize how alike we are. The song features strong vocals, boldly strummed acoustic guitar, and a loud, solid drum beat.
