Round and round, I keep on going,
Spinning like a top with no end in sight.
Am I doing enough to win favor with you?
I'm trying so hard to do all I can
To earn my righteous place in the next life.
Don’t understand it all, but my heart is true.

Looking out from the window of my soul,
Why can't I believe? - I just need to believe.
I can't save myself, but I know who can.
Why can't I believe? - I just need to believe.

Too many religions telling me what to do.
Too many hoops to jump through.
If I follow the rules maybe I'll be good enough for you.
But when I try to do good, I also do bad.
And sometimes I fall down and it drives me mad
‘Cause I don't live in a perfect world, but I want to.

Looking out from the window of my soul,
Why can't I believe? - I just need to believe.
I can't save myself, but I know who can.
Why can't I believe?

Oh, I've been told so many things, and they all can't be right.
But I know, oh I know, if I let it all go,
Then I can believe.  I just need to believe.

I just need to believe. I just need to believe.

Round and round, I keep on going,
Spinning like a top with no end in sight.
Am I doing enough to win favor with you?

Songwriter's Notes: A song that was written about the burning feeling that there must be more to life than what can be seen. After peeling away religious traditions and rules, the protagonist must rely on a combination of faith, common sense and his own experiences before believing in a higher power. The music includes subtle guitar harmonics in the hook, verses that build, and a climactic hard rock chorus that ends with the line, “Why can’t I believe? I just need to believe.”
