She was your typical American girl,
Caught up in her American world,
Full of fun and laughter – all the time.
Skipping rope - playing with Barbie and Ken.
A few years later it was Captain Morgan,
Being chased by three Coronas, and a lime.
Lost innocence, at the blink of an eye.
Couldn’t stay grounded when she was flying so high.
No need to worry ‘cause now she’s doin’ just fine.
Yeah don’t worry ‘cause now she’s doin’ fine.

Another day in this American World.
Trying to make their way,
Every boy and every girl.
Another day in this American World.
It’s another day... in this American World.

He was your typical American boy,
Weekends at Daddy’s made him jump for joy,
Baseball and fishing – and everything but love.
An angry teen, he hated all he knew.
A high school misfit, so he withdrew.
But never faded away – oddly enough.
Lives just off Main Street,
Above the ol’ book store.
Works hard to look ahead –
His past doesn’t matter any more.
No need to worry ‘cause now he’s doin’ just fine.
Yeah don’t worry ‘cause now he’s doin’ fine.

Another day in this American World.
Trying to make their way,
Every boy and every girl.
Another day in this American World.
It’s another day...

Another day in this American World.
It’s another day... in this American World.

She was your typical American girl,
Caught up in her American world,
Full of fun and laughter – all the time.

Songwriter's Notes: There's always hope that the lost youth can be redeemed in the land of plenty. The song tells two stories of a girl and boy, who grow to become troubled teens and struggling young adults. But as time goes on, they manage to outgrow their problems and adversities. The song leads us to believe that success will eventually come to them. This tune is a fusion of folk, country and pop styles.
